The Oktoberfest is a sixteen-day festival held
each year in
Munich,
Germany from late September to the first
Sunday in October. The festival originated as a commemoration of the
marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig (later King
Ludwig I) and Princess
Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen.
Beer became popular at the event in 1818, and beer was
produced for the festival by
Spaten,
Löwenbräu,
Augustiner,
Hofbräu,
Paulaner and
Hacker-Pschorr, and these brewerers continue to provide beer for the
event. Today, over 6 million people attend the festival featuring
14 beer tents or beer halls. Oktoberfest beer is generally brewed in
March, lagered over the summer, and served in the fall; this is known as
Märzen style. The
amber colored lager ranging from 5.5 to 6.0 in alcohol by volume is sold
in 1 liter steins, or as the Germans call it a Maßkrug (Maß).
The price of a Maß averages about €7.25 ($14 USD)! A twelve
gun salute followed by the Mayor of Munich tapping the first keg while
shouting "O'zapft is!" ("It's tapped!") marks the start of
Oktoberfest.
Devil Dog Breweries is planning to celebrate the festival with release
of two Oktoberfest style beers, and a German dark lager (Munich Dunkel)
this fall.

Devil Dog Breweries
was founded in 2002, and is one of the leading research centers for the
home brewing sciences. The brewery produced 1.50000 barrels of
beer last year and is worth an estimated $0.0010 Million.
